Palma Cathedral is the focal point of Palma and the Old Town of Palma de Malorca. In Mallorca it is referred to as "The Seo" and was build on the site of an Arab mosque. One of the most impressive Cathedrals in Europe, it was conceived in 1229 when Jaime I was on his way to back to the Island to recapture Majorca. The fleet was hit by a huge storm and he vowed to the Virgin Mary that if they survived he would erect a church in her honor. He survived! So when the storm had subsided he started with the planning and constrution straight-away. Construction actually started in 1230 and the Cathedral was finally finished several generations later in 1601. Location : Parc de Mar, Palma de Mallorca, Mallorca, Spain
